There was a popular spy novel written in the 1970s which was one of the first to even mention the existence of the NSA. In it, with a science fiction sort of flare, the book had NSA operatives using the then unheard of ability to ask English like questions of the massive NSA computers, learning about various evil-doers whereabouts and the like. It wasn’t science fiction. It was Model 204.
